how do they determine which of the contestants is the non darts player in 'bullseye'?

I remeber somebody in my uncles work years ago sending away for the application form to appear on the show.I'm sure it stated on the form give the name of the darts player & the non dart player.If i remember the story my uncle told me after the guy got the form he never bothered sending it off.

The format called for a two man team...one who answered the questions and the other being the player trying to win the amounts the questions were being asked for by scoring highly on the board, though there was nothing to stop the so called non darts player from being a competent player...two players from the league i used to play with entered many moons ago and did very well.
