Thats what I actually love about it Linda....
I mean I study film and media, and I have a genuine interest and passion for films/shows like Lost that have finally answered all my prayers for something so different to come along, and you are right, it can also be a curse as well as a blessing.
I think the creators and network really screwed up with this whole 'lets try a new marketing stratedgy where we show 7 episodes then take a break', their audience has really fragmented. A lot of viewers and fans of Lost have gone also because its now on sky, or they find it too hard to follow compared to the crap thats churned out of ITV or BBC. Lost is not just entertaining, its challanging.
Unfortunatley, the average Lost viewer probably wont ever comprehend the depth of what the show is really about.
When people ask what I mean by this, I just mean there is so much mythology and connections to figure out.... like the Apollo candy bars....whatever their significance is, the name is rooted in the Greek god Apollo....and some of the many aspects that are associated with Apollo are a bo and arrow and a staff, two of the hatches on the island (The Arrow, The Staff).....or remember in the episode LOCKDOWN?, well when the black light came on with the latin translations of the ? map that Locke saw and tried to remember, there are various latin translations, one of which says 'POSSIBLE SITE OF CEREBUS INCIDENT' or something like that...Cerebus is some kind of 3 headed dog that guard the underworld, and apparantly the smoke monster has 3 heads if you freeze frame it when it kills Mr Eko (rip lol). This leads me to believe maybe the incident IS the monster, guarding whatever it is...
Although these things don't sound too significant, until the last episode we will never know.
