Laurel and Hardy

When was the last time this show was repeated on TV? I have not even seen it on Sky. When I was a kid it was ALWAYS on and given the fact it was about 70 years old then, one can hardly say it has passed its sell buy date now can they?

Do kids today really need all this cr4p that is on TV today, stupid cartoons and wotnot.

I am not a father, but if I was I am certain Laurel and Hardy, Harold Lloyd, and a bit later Abbot and Costello, would be enjoyed by my children. Just like I enjoyed them 25 years ago.

Never really a Chaplin, Buster Keaton or Marx brothers fan though.

They normally have loads of them on over the christmas period in the mornings ... great stuff ... timeless.

I used to love Harold Lloyd,bbc 2 at 6pm? did all his own stunts too i think ?
My 2 kids have watched A&C the mummy one and they liked it,it was on sky ,they have also seen L & H we have a dvd of them, would love to see more of them on tv too!!

Couldn't agree more!!!!! L & H should have a weekly outing at peak time. I never tire of seeing Ollie sitting in the fire covered in brook as bricks fall down the chimney, dunting his head..or picking up a pile of roasting hot plates..CLASS.

When Laurel and Hardy visited the British Isles in the 1950s they were afraid that their visit would be a failure and that they were virtually forgotten. They realised their mistake when the liner on which they had crossed the Atlantic sailed up the river Lee towards Cork in Ireland and they heard the church bells ringing out The Cuckoo Song, which always heralded their entrance in their films. A massive crowd was waiting to see their arrival at the docks. I've always regretted not going to see them when they appeared in the town in which I was then living, but I might have been disappointed - Ollie was suffering from the heart condition which eventually killed him, and he was often replaced by a substitute.

They used to show them on BBC 2 in the mornings a few years ago.

You can now buy the Classic Shorts on DVD - I have bought a few of them and they are brilliant. I don't understand when they have those programs 100 best comedy clips etc that Laurel & Hardy don't win. It was Little Britain that won - you can't compare something that was made in the last couple of years to something that was made 90 years ago and is still as hilarious and genius today as it was then - even though I do find Little Britain funny I'm not conviced that they will have such a strong following nearly a century later.

Anyway HMV are selling some of the Classic Shorts for �3 at the moment so it's a good opportuninty to start your collection.

Couldn't agree more, laurel and hardy are timeless, sadly the charmless morons who seemingly run the tv schedules these days and who think anything over 10 years old is not hip, do not agree and thats the problem.

I seem to remember there was a screening rights issue in the eighties which prevented them from being shown.
Hal Roach Studios were colourizing them too , at the time.
Something at the back of my mind tells me Richard Branson was involved in the rights issue but I could be wrong.
