I didn't see the episode, but my mother described it to me. From the description i'm sure it's Angel by Massive Attack. It's on the Mezzanine album - You can hear it by following this link http://weiv.co.kr/ram/0505111.ram (You need realplayer to hear it)
If you haven't already got Mezzanine I can't reccomend it enough......It's one of the best albums i've ever heard. The track might be familiar to you as this, and a few other tracks from the same album, are used a lot as background music on adverts for hard hitting drama's.

thanks a lot carlos, it was massive attack... ''angel'' was used in that episode, but the track i was after was called 'teardrop', also on that album, sung by the wonderful liz fraser, thanks for the recomendation about mezzanine.is it better than blue lines which i have, if it is its some album, cos thats a classic.
I think both are on a par.
Teardrop was the other track i was thinking of when it was described to me.....In my opinion Mezzanine's the better of the two, but that's not intended to insult Blue Lines in any way. They're both stunning albums, especially as Blue Lines was a debut. I'm really into the production of Mezzanine, and even though Blue Lines has Unfinished Sympathy, my all time favourite track, I think that most of the tracks on Mezzanine are pretty flawless, but thats only my opinion......Let us know what you think of it, most people i've asked can't decide which is the better.
