does anyone know what happens at the end of the film 'the game'. Couldnt watch the whole thing on sat. night. got as far as michael douglas being drugged by a woman in a log cabin??!!!

Is this the film where it turns out the whole thing had been staged by his wife as a "surprise"? I can't remember the exact details, somebody please fill us in!

well basically it was a whole game set up by his brother as part of his (michael douglas) b-day present. It was a game to make him aware that he was too selfish etc. After he'd been drugged (i missed a bit here) but he was getting really anoyed and wanted to find out who was behind all the games, so while watching tv he saw one of the blokes he'd met and realised he was an actor. M.D went back to his house and found a gun and went looking for this actor bloke, threatened him til he told where the building was that these people worked in who were making all the games. He took him there, went in and saw all these people that he had met, and they were all actors. M.D was furious got that blonde girl, put a gun to her head and took her to the roof, she kept telling him that it was all a game + that his brother was behind the door ready to surprise him so he shouldn't shoot. but he does and shoots his brother, they all start blaming one another and MD jumps off the building in a suicide attempt. HOWEVER this was all part of the game, the bullet in the gun wasn't real his brother didn't get shot and when he jumped it was through breakaway glass thats for stunts and MD lands on a huge crash mat!! Although he didn't realise this till he lands and sees all these people that he knows dressed up for his birthday,,,they had all been in on it!! His lawyer, his ex-wife it was a game to make him thankful for what he had! oh and he asks that blonde girl out(who was an actress). Soz if this is a bit confusing but it's hard to explain, might be better if you watch it again!!

Further to 34Em's very detailed answer, I think that there may be an implication that the Game is still ongoing - when MD asks the girl what her name is, the name has the same initials as the name she has been using and don't forget that Sean Penn says that "it's never over"...

Thank you so much 34Em for the full answer. It was really bugging me. Personnally i thought the film started quite well but when they started machine gunning the flat...well, no comment. apparently 'Coma' with MD is in a similar vein but better, more subtly made.... Will check that out
