70's kids show

OK.here goes...when i was little i remember the opening credits for a show wherein a boy was being chased then he jumped into what looked like a giant upturned bowler hat.after this he ended up in some sort of 'magical' world. Can anyone help me with this?

I think you may be talking about "Jamie and the magic torch" where he jumps down a helter skelter at the beginning... Maybe?

PaulB - Jamie used to shine the torch on his bedroom floor, this then created a helter skelter to enter the magical land. I can't believe I can remember that !! It was a belting Kids programme!!!

Yeah, it definitely sounds like Jamie etc .. sorry to answer a question with a question but can anyone remember what Jamie's dog was called?

No, it wasn't Jamie and the magic torch. This show was live action. On t.v. around 1972/73.American i think. By the way, jamie's dog was called "Wordsworth"!
