Could the name Cupid have come from outside Europe?
In Telugu language of India, Kaamudu means Cupid.
This name is more close to the European name than the
Sanskrit name Kama. The Telugu name is being used
in India for more than 2000 years.

possibly; the earliest my dictionaries give is the derivation from the Latin cupidus. Sometimes words of Greek origin were carried to India by Alexander the Great's troops; but the Greek name for Cupid was Eros, so that probably doesn't apply here.
