Childrens books in the 1970's

Does anyone remember a series of books in the 70's about two familes who set treasure hunts/adventures for each other to keep their children amused through the summer holidays? I can remember the name Cherry, but whether that was one of the families surnames, or part of the name of the street they lived in, or part of the title I don't know. Please help, as my brain hurts trying to think of the name of the titles/author.

As I recall, it was a series of books, each one had different hunt / adventure in for the children. I can't remember the specifics of each hunt unfortunately.

Was it Remember me to Harold Square, by Paula Danziger? It was about a group of children from 2 families that went on a scavenger hunt over the summer holidays around NYC. There was a sequel called Thames doesn't rhyme with James.

One of them was "The Cherrys and Silent Sam". You could try googling that and see where it goes.
