shooting dogs : i literally saw around 3 1/2 minutes of it near the end and blubbed for 3 times that. The bit where they are begging the un soldiers to shoot them and their children because they know they are going to get hacked to death and they want them not to suffer. More sad because its ttrue

Oh, thugulike - yes, Mrs Miniver - it's brilliant!! Ages since I've seen it, I think I'll go & look for ir again. Another good, old one is The Inn of the Sixth Happiness. Here's a way out one for you all, it's called "8 Seconds" & it's a true story. The soundtrack's amazing, too,(if you like country music) especially at the end. :) K

It has to be Mrs Miniver for me...I start blubbing as soon as I see the cheery face of the old man who wins the cup for his roses.....but I won't say any more for those of you who haven't seen it.
Years ago I took my eldest to see Santa Claus The Movie and she was mortified when I started crying 5 minutes into the film when Santa dies.

whistle down the wind ( black and whit, children find a convict in their barn and convince themselves he's Jesus)

pay it forward (agree 100% 4getmenot- always blub no matter how many times I've watched it)

blow (true story of George Jung, drug dealer)

leon ( violent but I defy anyone male or female who does not sniffle when she plants the pot plant at the end)

midnight cowboy ( you gotta love Hoffman)

magdalain sisters ( based on true story about Irish girls packed off to strict convents for "sinning"- the sound of music it aint)

sleepers ( brutal tale of a group of boys abused at a
young offenders institution, and the revenge they take)

Jack and Sarah - (lighthearted chick flick story of a new father coming to terms with his wife's death)

To Kill a Mocking Bird - classic -black and white with gregory peck

Joe Schmo & anderlee - I didn't think anyone would know about Waterloo Bridge, so didn't mention it before - it's lovely, isn't it? And how come no-one's mentioned Pearl Harbor? It's recent, but still good for a weepie!

teak city of angels is also one of my faves. ermintrude what a great post, I read to kill a mockingbird at school along with The Colour Purple, will check all these films out. and leon very good and sleepers is quite disturbing but really good too
