Vacuum Cleaners

I'm thinking of buying a new vacuum cleaner. I want one with the best cleaning/suction power and an upright. I cannot tell whether I need to compare watage or air watts. Do I just choose the highest watage - I've seen 2000w. I understand that it doesn't really matter if it is bafless or not. Would appreciate any advice

You won't get a dyson here in England for much less that �200. Ones for animal and allergy �299. for the dc14.I used to swear by them but not any more.I now have the Samsung which is just as good.

go for a bagless one,no need to buy bags and you can see when its full. we've got an electrolux glider upright, this is the second one we have had of this model,less than a �100 and does a fine job and good suction. we tried a dyson and the suction was excellent,but we found the handle and attatchments were awkward to use, o.k. if your a youngster, but we just want something simple and conventional that does a good job.

I had read some negative things about Dyson, but bought one anyway. Bad mistake, I was miserable with it. It was way to clunky and certainly didn't seem to do all that it claims it does. I gave it to my sister and bought a Hoover bagless. Again a bad mistake. I despise a bagless vac. The main reason for me is, emptying the cup is a mess. I don't know about you, but the crud that comes out of my carpets isn't pretty. Along with a lot of dog hair I was emptying the cup every few minutes.
The bottom line is going to be your own needs and how much you want to pay to meet those needs.

I went back to a Eureka bag vacuum and couldn't be happier. The hose attachment works great and it does bare floors. Best of all, there's no mess changing the bag!!

Ive just bought at a bargain from my catalogue the Typhoon upright vacuum, 18oo watts, Hepa filter for if you have allergies and pet hair, it has all the attachments plus a turbo head which is fitted into the handle for use, its great, i wouldnt be without it and its only cost me the small price of �49 ATM

The wattage doesn't always make much difference.
We had a high powered cylinder hoover with a boost swithc. We cleaned the house, then went out and picked up a Dyson upright and re did the house again, you wouldn't believe the ammount of dust it picked up! Dysons are very good for picking up pet hair and they even have special models designed for it too. (Our Dyson was a re-furb vac, so you don't have to spend a fortune to get a good deal and was the best buy this year)
