Plastic roof film

My driving school car has a protective roof film- to prevent the roof sign scratching the paint. I need to remove it. have previosly used hot air gun/ hair drier and they have just peeled off, This one seems to have welded itself into the paint. any ideas on removal, apart from wet and dry and repainting the roof
