I am transfering Tv Opera recordings from the 1980s from VHS to DVD many with great results, but a few after a while stop and on screen appears THIS PROGRAM NOT ALLOWED TO BE RECORDED appears.
As i was able to record them 20 plus years ago why not now. Al tapes in good condition.
Some commercial VHS tapes are protected by something called Macrovision copy-protection. Haven't heard of it on home-recordings.
While playing there's an extra signal at the top or bottom of the screen. This extra signal modifies the data stream so it can't be recorded to another device (such as a DVD) although you can display it to a TV.
There are black-boxes available to let you overcome this.
What are you recording to - DVD recorder? DVD Hard Disc Recorder? PC Hard Disc?
I guess the broadcast recordings contained the copy-protection and that's been recorded to the tape. Your machine might be too sensitive to allow you to copy from VHS to DVD.
Do you have any other recorders you can use, eg. output VHS to a second recorder or TV card? Do you want the video or are you just interested in the sound?
Best I can suggest is to visit VideoHelp Forums or Google 'Macrovision' and your VHS DVD Model.
