in addition to the measure mentioned in this article i also think that all medical staff should not be wearing their uniforms outside the hospital building.how many of you see nurses in uniform in the supermarket, picking up kids from school etc in their uniforms?shouldnt the hospitals be making them change there?how many uniforms do nurses get, one for each shift a week or do they wear them twice before washing them?not having a go, just concerned that more could be done to stop these super bugs.

Also, they will probably have 3 - 5 uniforms depending on the policy of the hospital.

Nurses should definately where there Uniforms outside work, wherever possible, especially in my local, in fact it should be compulsory! .......sorry just a thought.!

Its a disciplinary offense to war your uniform outside of work at our local hospital. I notice that in the shops and things, its often care workers out and about in their uniforms and not nurses from the hospital.

There is a risk of nurses carrying the likes of mrsa and c-diff outside the hospital. I used to be a care worker and if i was dealing with a patient with mrsa i would bring a spare uniform to avoid cross infection. A lot of care workers do. Also when you see them in the shops they are normally shopping for a patient.

would it perhaps be better if all hospital staff wore something similar to the greens they wear in theatre?just have different colours for different staff like nurses, porters, doctors etc?there's no practicality in the current uniform to stop this change and the greens style things are easier to launder, cheaper and wouldnt be so nice to be seen out in the street in?

Ah, come on Erica, be nice!!! Any mention of "nurse" and "uniform" is going to elicit that kind of response!!!!
I think it's bad practice in the current climate to wear a uniform outside of the hospital; you are only encouraging cross - infection.
Just my view as a former Nursing NVQ Assessor.

When I was nursing it was a no no to not change out of your uniform at the end of your shift . In fact you had another change if you were doing something like taking patients to x-ray etc . When we went to and from the canteen we had to always wear our capes .....I am going back now eh , ...lol.

Come on USE your head; a nurse stands to carry infections/bacteria on his/her uniform by the nature of their very work; a decorator just paint!!

So come on then bigmamma, do you think the state of our wards is a direct consequence of Matrons being removed from Nursing? Every nursing home manager I know (and I'm not exaggerating when I say I know over 500) laments the loss of the Matron as they say standards have fallen as a result of this.
