Digital Camera delay

I've had a couple of digital cameras (Fuji and Olympus) and there has always been a delay between pressing the shutter release and the photo being comitted, is this the case with all digital camera, I'd like a digital SLR will that cure the problem?

The newer cameras have greatly reduced delay times,likely to be an SLR type.Google it or pop in to Jessops(although they may not be the lowest price,so once you have a short list shop around

I have a sony and that has a delay. I thought it was a fault, but if yours does it as well it must be a neccesary part of focus and light sensing before shutter action. whether a new model would be any better would only be answered by trying some out in jessops ( the only shop I know that lets you mess about with the goods ) I must admit it is off putting, you have just seen a candid shot, rush to take it, press the button and no.the camera says " lets wait til the actions over " and then "click clonk " . many a good photo lost.!

With a youg child it's just pure luck getting the photo you want

I bought a Canon MV830 camcorder from PC World and when you take a short film on card setting you can play back and pause then press the shutter button for the shot that you want and print it off on your PC. If you download Picasa2 which is free you can crop and tint and have hours of fun messing about. But to answer your query...All digital cameras take a second to analyse the program before the shutter opens, auto focus, etc,etc.
