sky plus enables you to record one programme and watch another at the same time (or record 2 shows at the same time) it also enables you to set up series links to record (soaps, series etc)

I would be lost without my sky plus! Its amazing the best invention since sliced bread.
I also got rid of Sky, because I begrudged paying the monthly subscription (extortionate) for the rubbish they put on.

I then purchased a new TV with Freeview and also a separate digital box and now I can watch one channel and record another without the subscription charges. OK, Freeview doesn't offer as many channels, but it's enough for what I want.

You could just buy 2 digi boxes for approx 50-60 and save yourself about 200 (minimum) per year subscription charges.

thanks for replies both useful information
Or one freeview hard drive recorder with twin tuners and series link,

No monthly subscription, does exactly what Sky+ does.
if you mean the fee they used to charge to use sky plus (it used to be 10 per month to have the feature of sky plus) but now its freeeee

Ok you still pay sky charges but you would pay those with a normal box anyway.
I think that's a good deal, I paid 100 + 30 installation for my dads sky plus as he is an existing customer. Sky + is brilliant it's revolutionised my TV viewing, I get to see all the good things when I want to, so I watch better quality TV. Also I finish work some nights at 9.20 p.m and if there's a 9pm 3 part drama on, my friends have to wait until 10 or later when the video finishes recording to watch it, whereas I can get home, rewind it live, watch it, fast forward through the adverts, and catch up with the actual show in real time. It's far easier than trying to find a video tape with space on, which was usually a problem in our house.
