I knew about Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels without looking it up - just how sad is that? My mind is a skip for trivia.
I used to love the series as a child - nice and simple, the goodies and baddies were nice and obvious, no complexities like dramas today.

it was indeed great, andy, real boys-own stuff. My brothers and I really loved it. In fact, even though it was from years earlier, the toys were hugely popular in the seventies - look here:

Mind you, we had Action Men and we weren't allowed these - too expensive - but a neighbour had them. Little bug ger would never let anyone play with Lone ranger, we always had to be Tonto.
