It's a feeling of numbness . Poor Bill Tarmey acted it out so well and would probably be the first to admit it was their most difficult scene ever.

I agree Carol Anne, when you've been with someone for so long it's instinct to know every look, movement (or non movement!) of the other person. My sister works in the funeral business & she thought it was well done & very typical of how many people react, including the neighbour's responses when Jack told them what had happened.
Is Jack still going to leave or will he stay now?
Robina and others, It was perfect for all the reasons some of you picked up on. Personally the most touching moment was when he covered her with his coat and brushed her hair, this set me off as I recollected when I found my younger brother dead ,my instincts were the same - a rush of shock, awareness and those moments alone before formalities take over. All very moving and briliantly acted with the soul of sencitivity by all.
