I missed last night's final episode - can anyone tell me what happened please?

Nicky got it on with claire and he found out it was his boss that set him up to take the bribe to see if he could be trusted.the boss asked nicky to be available to make an arrest on a sting operation but nicky was busy arresting a serial date rapist and the boss got shot! nicky gets a call at the end and stares into the sky so you dont actually know if that means the boss has died or not.
