Ok, we all remember Tiswas and Swap shop, Grange hill and Black Beauty. But what were the best tv shows ofr kids that you remember that wouldn't make the usual top ten popular polls?

My three would be
HR Pufnstuff,

Dick Turpin,

and the Beachcombers

bimbo - My sci-fi interest was started by Star Wars, but fostered nicely by this Battlestar Galactica.

That said - this is what blew me away. Roll on the day when it's released on dvd:

I can vaguely remember a kids program called, i think, Paulus the little gnome.None of my friends remember it though.

does anyone remember Hammy Hamster? Also called Tales of the Riverbank? Used to really think he drove that boat.

I used to watch Worzel gummage, Come back Lucy, Kizzy,
The Secret Garden, The Brady Bunch, The banana splitz, makes me feel old now
hi wickerman
yes i remember tales of the riverbank i used to love that program when i was a small boy, hammy floating down the river in his little clockwork speed boat.i had a clockwork speed boat just the same as hammy's but it always sank when you put it water.
Wickerman, ive got two videos, one called Watch with mother, the other one Watch with mother, the new generation.Tales of the riverbank is on the next generation along with Mary Mungo and Midge plus others.
Thank you, bimbo123456, for reminding me of Daktari - I used to love that show, especially Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion! ;-) I remember The Beachcombers as well Whickerman - a Canadian programme if memory serves. I also used to like Barbapapa, The Hair Bear Bunch, Deputy Dawg, Issi Noho, The Littlest Hobo and The Lost Islands (anyone else remember that one?)

BTW, for anyone up for more TV nostalgia, may I recommend two websites that can soon while away the odd spare hour or seven? The mighty TV Cream deals with all sorts of TV shows, mainly from the 60s to the 80s, while sausagenet covers a wider time span but specialises in kids' shows:

how about catweezel = that used to scare me a bit = I used to love Jack Wild = does anyone remember junior show time with a boy called Glynn on it - I loved him when I was about 4 or 5.

Also there was something called Witchypoo think thats the name of it on bbc and Kizzy a drama series that i always loved.

Does anyone remember show Pauline quirk and linda robson did when they were teenagers with an awful band on it
My two would be Stig of the Dump and The Flumps. Can't think of a third.
I loved Rainbow and Pipkins, Topov monkey and Hartley hare always made me smile.
i was born in 1966 and remember these programmes, all of which i liked:-

chorlton and the wheelies,,aarrgghhhhhh,,the good old days..wish i was still there
Memore, that cr@p band you are referring to was, I think, Flintlock. The drummer, Mike Holloway, went on to be in The Tomorrow People.

Some kids progs from the 70s that haven't been mentioned yet are Land Of The Giants, Lost In Space, Michael Bentine's Potty Time and Hattie Town.

When I was just a wee tot (eons ago!) my favourites were The Herb Garden and Pogle's Wood. Anyone remember Pogle's Wood? Having seen it again as an adult I think it is a very strange programme indeed.
Aprilis, Pogles wood is on my Watch with mother video.
The best 70s kids prog theme tune has to be Follyfoot though...

Sorry Kola, I got so involved in watching 70s stuff on YouTube that I didn't realise you'd posted to me. Mr Aprilis and I have been singing along to all the old opening titles!
