Film Noir title

In about 1973/4 I saw a black comedy film about a couple that met and kept trying to commit suicide together. Each attempt ended in failure because of outside circumstances. One attempted gasing in the oven failed because they had neglected to pay the gas bill, for example. While it sounds really ghastly, it was actually a very funny film. The film finale shows them driving off a cliff in a car. Does anyone know the title of this film, or a website that could help? I have no idea who the actors are.

It could be "Harold & Maude". Young boy and much older woman who both want to die. I think she dies naturally and he goes off the cliff at the end.

Thanks for your response. It is not "Harold and Maude": the film I saw had a couple of the same age, and all I can remember are the gas oven and the cliff scenes.
