With his epic Titanic submerged in an ocean of box office dollars and critical accolades, Director James Cameron has already started production on its sequel. With an anticipated budget of $900 million, Titanic 2: Return of the Iceberg is slated to become the most expensive summer blockbuster of 1999.
Although final casting decisions have not yet been made, details of the movies script are already leaking to the press. Stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DeCaprio will again reprise their roles as Rose and Jack, while newcomer MacCauley BlahBlah will assume the role of Jack Jr.
The story once again revolves around the romance of Rose and Jack, beginning with an explanation of Jacks fate. It turns out he was not dead at the end of the first movie; rather, his body was in a state of suspended animation brought on by the frigid waters of the North Atlantic! As he slipped beneath the ocean waves, Jack was rescued by the very porpoises who followed the Titanic throughout its journey!
In a profoundly ironic twist, Rose and Jack are asked to journey once again aboard the Titanic 2 as she sets sail across the Atlantic on her maiden voyage. Everything goes well until Rose, strolling about the rear of the ship, spots an iceberg...following the Titanic 2! Yes, its the same iceberg that ravaged the first ship, but this time, its personal.
"There were a lot of things I wanted to do in the original movie that simply weren't possible from a budget perspective," explained director Cameron. "I mean, there's only so much you can do with $200 million."
I have seen a trailer but it now has been removed from the site I visit ? STRANGE.
But it did center around Jack.
