Why did the recent "new" episode appear to be over a year old? (copyright 2007 and the clapperboard on the fake film seemed to say January 2007) I read somewhere that ITV can't afford to show films in the can because it then has to pay the film's producers....
The recent episode 'They Seek Him Here' is actually episode 7 of seres 10 and there is stll one episode of the series to be broadcast.
It should have been shown on the 7th October last year (series 10 actually started in 2006) with the next episode due to have been shown the next week.
However, ITV have taken to showing part series and intersperce them - they do it with Heartbeat, The Royal, Foyles War and it is maddening. I can't understand the logic of it at all.
I agree completely.
There's no continuity on Sunday nights any more.
Not that I really want 24 Heartbeats in a row, but it's pot luck what you get.
Is there a series 11 of MM being made Fay?
Yes! Due for broadcast this July but don't hold your breath.
What is very annoying is these last two episodes were shown in other countries such as Italy, Australia and America months ago.
The UK boxed dvd set was due to be released before Christmas but as they cannot be sold until the episodes have been shown on tv the release dates were continually put back.
Series 12 is due to start recording soon, so there is plenty to look forward to.
At least you have some Midsomer Murders... here in the U.S. we lost it about a year ago with no promise of return. I'm sure Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby is going to be in the Nursing Home before we see it again... sad... We have nothing equivalent to this fine British import...
And the itv continuity announcer also stated last week that that was the start of a new series (which appears wrong) and they then showed something else this sunday. It's crazy to treat such a popular show in this fashion imho.
A lot of its to do with advertising revenue, a film in the can is still an unrealised asset on the balance sheets for the bean counters. For example, if an episode cost a bar to make theyre not going to show it until they can be assured of at least that much in revenue from the adverts during it (or it generating enough interest in the series for future revenues) and if they did show it then apart from amortisation itll show up as a loss in the books.
The BBC dont have so much of a problem because they only have to rely on ratings to justify their dross, but the ratings are in turn dictated by an antiquated system using a minuscule percentage of the population who watch TV so it's not really an even playing field.
Thats why theres so many deaths / weddings / murders / affairs in all the soaps! Keeps the numbers up!
Cheeky mare! Ill have you know Im on lunch (in the sunshine) ;-P
Talking of loafing, Ive just read a grizzling email from some lazy wotsit who claims to be snowed under at work yet still manages to find time for playing on the web! Honestly, some people!
Sorry for the interruption, uncle al, hope my previous answer was helpful.
I'm on my lunch as well actually!!!
Make sure you have some suncream on my lovely, here's a couple of tuppences to put over the pips! ;)
Sorry Uncle Al, it was his ^ fault :)
They have just finished filming an episode of Midsomer Murders where I work, The Magicians Nephew. Don't know when it is due to be screened though - sorry!
