unexplained lights in the sky
Hi everyone
Have posted this in Body and Soul but was recommended to put it here in the hope that someone could help!
On Saturday night at about 12.30 there were some very strange lights in the sky above my house. They were in groups of three or so and there were about 20 in total. They were quite high up and moving at about the same speed as you would see a plane move in the sky. They all disappeared when they got to the same point in the sky too. They were much larger than stars and glowing.
Some other people in the street were out too.. we did try to photograph them but they came out as streaks. There has been nothing on the local news and I'm just looking for a logical explanation! Someone did say that it could have been a freak weather thing that caused a reflection of car headlights in the sky but just wondered if anyone else had seen anything at all that night? I live in South Wales but someone from Essex replied to my other post and had seen something too.
thank you

They come in packs of 10, so that might explain why you saw 20 of them, and the fact that they all disappeared at the same point may indicate that they entered some low cloud at that point and were obscured from view.

Fire lanterns is a very probable explanation. You have to hold them down and upright until you're sure they're hot enough to take off on their own. Unless there are dozens of you this means that they tend to take off in 'clumps' of however many people are launching them.
I would discount the Essex reply - nothing short of a satellite would be visible from both Essex and South Wales at the same time.
