Old Children's Programme

I remember a children's programme that I used to watch in the seventies but all I can remember about it is a rabbit puppet that was rather scruffy as I remember. The name 'Pippin' sticks in my mind. Can anyone jog my memory? Thanks.

It's a wonder I grew up into the (almost) sane person I am now after watching that! Although I suppose back then it all seemed very normal - you know, a hare with wires in his arms, a pig speaking with a broad Brummie accent. :-D

I think the early editions of this were called Inigo (or Indigo) Pipkins He was a puppet maker. In real life, the old fella that played Mr.pipkin died. The next programme (renamed Pipkins) opened with the camera on Mr Pipkins assistant who muttered the line "Hello children, Mr Pipkins.... DEAD!!!" and then just carried on with the programme.I sat traumertised for days afterwads.

You can't not remember Topov the monkey, so called because he liked to sit on top of everything. The hare was called Hartley too, Hartley had a black country accent I seem to recall.
