Seeing Knobby's comment about Trinny and Susannah made me realise that I have not seen their show here in a long time. I have a channel called BBC America.

We get these shows: Footballers wives, How clean is your house, BBC World news, Cash in the attic and some others. I used to like Teachers, but it seemed to disappear. I also have seen some of Eastenders but could not get into it.

Without being judgemental it seems like these shows are of a lower production than US shows. Do you see a difference too when viewing American TV? Just curious.

It looks as if you are recieving what is definitely middle-of -the-road telly......not great but neither is it cringe-makingly awful. I sometimes discuss Brit vs American programs with my brother.....he has always enjoyed 'As Time Goes By'....and several other comedies that ceased production at least 10 yrs ago! Yet we recieve all of the CSI programs,Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives-among others- within months of them being shown in the States.

I never heard of As Time Goes By.

I try not to post too much about US TV because of the delay and not wanting to spoil it for anyone. All the shows are off for now and I will be waiting for Big Brother (US). It gets on my nerves, but there is little on over the summer hiatus.

Do you watch LOST? Finale was on the other night.
LOST has been big over here....but I think it is on one of the cable channels, which I don't get. Heros has also been huge.
I have to say that the Briitsh serial dramas are a bit dull here. Nothing like Lost and Desperate Housewives. I've been enjoying Pushing Daises with Anna Friel who is British.
Some of the American serials are much more creative...they seem to take more risks (with larger budgets! )
Did you see Flood the other week Pasta? What a pile of .... !

The Brits are good at talent shows though. Look at Leona Lewis and Paul Potts.
I spend my Tv time mainly watching American shows, cos they are much more creative than over here. With one exception though!! ...Period dramas on the bbc...You would love Cranford Eng Teach ;-)...However,nothing compares with Lost !!,..Just seen the 2 episode season finale...superb stuff;-)
I'm so upset I couldn't watch Lost. I'm with VirginMedia who lost it after the catfight with Sky!
Cranford!!..sublime telly!
It'll be out at Christmas,Tigger,on dvd..well worth the wait ;-)But...you can see all the episodes of this season on "surfthechannel.com"...Not the best quality, but def watchable;-)

Sorry I ducked out for a bit. I am glad we have good shows. Though for every good one 4 are bombs. I am tired of becoming vested in a show only to have it gone after 3 episodes.

I think this has always been the case. Probably the most popular soap here in the UK is Coronation Street, which has been running since 1960. In the 1980s, I remember reading that Joan Collins (who, once upon a time, had a small role in Coronation Street) apparently received a bigger salary for just one single episode of Dynasty than the stars of Coronation Street receive for a whole year. Its obvious that you guys have a lot more money to splash out on lavish productions (and salaries). Our TV companies just dont have the budgets and I'm afraid its often evident in the end production. It's probably also the reason why a lot of US shows are popular over here. Im a huge fan of American sitcoms and also shows such as CSI, The Sarah Connor Chronicles etc. Im 54 but even as a boy, my favourite shows were American The Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island, Have Gun Will Travel (to name but a few). Personally I think we Brits would be lost without American television.
