Can I get away with travelling with a cancelled passport, within date?
I lost my passport a year ago and had to fast track it and get another, which I have somehow, through moving twice, managed to lose now... I know I'm stupid - don't tell me, ok?
Now I've found my old one, which is cancelled of course, but all in date and everything. My question is... As I am supposed to be going on holiday tomorrow and have no time to deal with this in a "good" way, can I get away with using this?
I am going to Egypt.
I know they don't ALWAYS check everything in Europe, but I don't know about outside the EU - anyone know???
PLEEEEASE HELP!
And don't insult me.

It's a safe bet that checks will be stringent, and anything odd - and yes they will spot your cancellation a mile off - will be investigatd at great lenght, and the chances are that all you will see of Egypt will be the inside of the terminal, as they promptly deport you.
Why not place a call to the Egyptian Embassy in London, who will give you a definitive response.
As for not insulting you - we all make mistakes - that's why they put rubbers on the end of pencils.

You don't just need a passport for Egypt you need a Visa too although yiou can get one on arrival that's yet another person who'll be looking at your passport.
I'd be amazed if you even made it onto a plane I'm afraid
It's also quite probably an offense in both the UK and Egypt
I think you can get an emergency passport in 24 hours if you pay up - shame you didn't post yesterday.

If I were you I'd phone the passport office to see what your options are and your travel company. You might get away with just losing a few days.
I really wouldn't try to bluff my way through Egyption immigration in the current political climate

you will not get away with using your old passport
in the old days the check in person would just look at the date and your picture and wave you through
but now the passport is quite often scanned which is linked to a central computer which will tell them that the passport is a cancelled and a new one has been issued
this is to stop anyone using two passports
sorry no camel ride tomorrow :-(
