Totally agree, most of us enjoy a bit of T.V as a way of escapism. As long as it's balanced with play, reading (being read to) and socialising (among other activities) it's fine!

Do you think its important for parents/guardians to watch TV with children i.e. children's TV etc?
It can be enjoyable, and my son likes the fact I'm taking an interest in something he likes ( plus others).
it can be great to spend time watching TV with them. young children soak so much up. My son loves to watch a sky program called 'how its made' which is not a childs program!
we sit and talk about what we see and at 2 years old he now asks (and remembers) what things are made from all the time.
in moderation i think its all beneficial
I let my just turned 4 yr old watch about 2 - 4 hrs a day which I suppose does sound alot. She watches it in 30-60 min bursts throughout the day and has known how to use Sky+ for quite a while now lol! She does also play with her toys loads and we go out alot so its not like she just sits in front of the tv all day. I think tv only becomes a problem if it is on constantly and your child doesn't do anything else but watch it

I agree with Lakitu, everything in moderation.

My daughter is 2, my husband and I watch kids TV with her and talk to her about the programmes she watches. We don't just 'dump' her in front of the TV on her own. She can now count to 20 in Spanish and say a few Spanish words thanks to Dora the Explorer & Go Diego. There are some great kids programmes out there that help kids learn about all sorts of things in a fun way, in addition to learning from parents and other sources.

And like tigwig's daughter, she's getting a bit too familiar with the Sky remote and Sky Plus!
