I work for a hotel and recently was issued with a notice for a disciplinary meeting -that i'm having today.
Basically, there was a wedding in the hotel and the maid of honour came up to me to ask if she could decorate the brides room. She showed me the box or rose petals and condoms and the like. I went onto the system and the bride had not yet checked in so no items where in the room and I agreed, gave the maid of honour the key.
She thanked me the next day on check out as the bride had really loved her suprise.
But house keeping complained because she had drawn on the mirrors in lipstick saying "Congratulations, etc" and would take them ages to clean. It came to light then that i had given the key to someone who was not the guest. And that is why im facing disciplinary!
I understand the rule -but surely there should be exceptions??
Anyway -are they going to give me a written or a verbal warning?

Maybe neither, but you have the right to take a colleague with you to a disciplinary meeting.

If you are friendly with any of the staff, ask them to come along, maybe not from housekeeping, though

Good luck.

Having worked in hotels in both housekeeping and reception I know it can be difficult to keep everyone happy.

However the 'not letting people decorate rooms' rule is a sound one. As you have found out housekeeping have to clear up the mess and not all wedding guests will be restrained in how they decorate the room.

She showed you the rose petals but failed to show you the lipstick (which by the way is a pig of a thing to get off) and rose petals take forever to hoover up.

Unless you are constanly in trouble at work this should only give you a warning. Appoligise profusly and admit you shouldn't have done it and that you won't do it again and they (should) go easy on you.

Got a written warning. They seemed to think it was severe misconduct and could be a sackable offence but were "going lightly on me."
Hmmm... time to quit! Thanks again for your comments
That's a bit harsh I think. Was there damage to the room or just very messy?

Purely from what you have said I think it is an overreaction on their part.

The economy is in decline but they recon that hospitality is rising due to people staying closer to home so a new job may not be too difficult.

However explaining a written warning is a bit more tricky.

Good luck
thats just unluky. dont be worried tho because people dont think about the consiquences when there trying to do somthing nice for someone
If you feel that you have been harshly treated, you have the legal right to appeal to a higher authority within the hotel group against the warning, as long as you reply within 5 working days of receiving your disciplinary letter.
