what to do with all our Gold Medallists?

For countless years while we were virtually starved of serious Olympic success, we've made do with Silver Medalists like Sharron Davies and Roger Black, and Bronze Medalists (ooops, can't think of any right now!) commentating on the Games ever since. So what should become of the lesser mortals now we've got so many Gold winners - should they be replaced or aptly pushed back into second or third choice?
