I am finding that newer movies now in the cinema, though really high definition on screen, seem to be a bit slow when panning across ....and sometimes when the action is very fast (van helsing) it can me feel quite dizzy and I turn my head away from the screen....is it just me getting old or does anyone else see this ???

yup its you getting old !
i know what you mean. i think they're so busy trying to make good moves they don't realise that you can't even see what the hell is going on. oh and your not an old sod! you asked a perfectly harmless question i don't know why people are getting so worked up)
happens to me too. In fact, the scenes where the Titanic is sinking and people are drowning makes feel so seasick I have thrown up!!! Not an old g1t at all!!
