well as it happens, yeah....
As they say, "wanted in battle, not wanted in Britain" can't make any sense of it myself, people like abu hamza can stay and some of them have to go back home. mad, raving mad.

Thanks fellas. At least there's the three of us.
Doncha just want to say to Gordon "Look...this is an easy win. Let all Ghurkhas stay. No-one (with the possible exception of some raving lunatics in the BNP) will complain".

It's a frickin' no-brainer.
Well I actually meant in my post you had to say more because I didn't have a clue what you were on about.

That said, from the little read on this post, yeah, it is wrong.

Sorry Postdog. Misread your contribution completely. Had I realised I'd have been pleased to go into more detail.
Basically, Postdog, members of that esteemed and honourable regiment are perfectly good enough to die in battle for Britain, but aren't good enough to have British citizenship (and hence, a right to reside here) unless they've retired since 1997.

I think it's disgusting.
I was in the Far East, 1971-73, 10th Ghurka brigade was attached to us, and I still have friends, unfortunately, in Nepal, but we communicate.
My Nephew went out there a couple of years ago, and because we had done service together, nothing was too good,

Whats happening is disgusting, I lobbied my MP to no avail.

I shouldn't, but I feel whats happening as a personal slight, as has already been said, these people are prepared to fight and die for the frredom of this country, and out goverment treats them like peasants.

i'm afraid I can't find words strong enough to describe my feelings on this,

Maybe I'm thick but if we open our doors (rightly or wrongly) to asylum seekers, among other people, to whom we owe nothing natural justice - something we're supposed to enforce and be proud of - commands we not only let them in or let them stay, but to ensure they receive a decent standard of living, our respect and our undying gratitude. The cost would be minimal. Almost makes a farce of matching passed the Cenotaph every November.
Aren't these gurkas just mercenaries at the end of the day?

Fighting for reward for a country that isn't theirs?

It's just that a mystique has grown up around them and you've bought into it.
This incenses me, and I lobbied my MP too Lonnie. We put up with, and pussyfoot around people who hate us - like these .......

.......who regardless of their so-called Human Rights, or the dangers they might face if returned to their own countries, should be unceremoniously booted out immediately ........and yet we close the door firmly in the faces of our most loyal friends. We are greatly in their debt, and it makes no sense whatsoever. I simply cannot understand the thinking on this. We should be welcoming the Ghurkas with open arms, so why aren't we? What's the reasoning(?) behind it?
Maybe this is the underlying problem?

Y does anyone want to live in UK, is it for free medical care? It would be better to lobby the Gov for funding to Nepal so the loyal Ghurkas can live comfortably in their own country.
We are a small country and they are a drain on the NHS and the housing stock. Open door immigration is a recipe for disaster. There will be blood on the streets.
And think of the crime rate. By fighting in a war (for us), they've shown a tendency towards violence that will surely spell an increase in violent crime.
Can't let our gallant allies in but some Barmy Muslim Cleric-Welcome . {Don't get angry-get writing and voting.}

Quinlad and Gromit: I don't think I've ever read such ungrateful, selfish, callous garbage. You two have given me yet another reason to be ashamed of being British. Perhaps ex-members of our own armed forces also fit into the category of violent-hungry neanderthals roming the streets in order to satisfy their blood-lusts. And no jake-the-peg, they aren't nor never have been mercenaries just proud soldiers who've come to our aid in times of need and have served with courage and distinction. Some people make me sick.
Blimey. :-)

If only we could not only let them stay but INSIST they do so and export the undesirables we already have. Being born here having no advantage. Touching anyone's nerves?
What do you expect ? The government's of the uk are more interested in "looking good", by giving untold amounts of money to the African governments, to spend on themselves instead of their poor. They ignore the forces that helped us in WW1 & WW2. The Ghurkas were also in the Faulklands. Again! our government lets its OWN injured troops, to stay on the breadline, rather than help them. They would rather give funds to the illegal immigrant wasters, and benifit scroungers that don't want to work.
