Wasn't he a detective constable to George Sewells detective seargent in Special Branch.

Hilts is right. It was 'Target' and I used to really love it! (mind you I was 13 so it was probably rubbish!)

He also starred in an exceptionally frightening Ghost Story series in the mid/late sixties, called Tales of Mystery and Imagination. Scared me witless, but I was only 10. He did the narritive at the beginning of every episode, and also stared in the stories.
