ive often wondered how they work it out ! it should be purely on 'bums on seats' as the cost of a cinema ticket is much much dearer than when star wars came out so obviously the more expensive tickets get the easier it is to score big at the box office!!!
In our opinion or based on facts and statistics e.g. box office takings, number of video/DVD copies sold, cost of making v money made etc.??
I presume you mean officially, but what does everyone think personally? Mine would have to include:
E.T.
The Green Mile
When Harry Met Sally
Platoon
...i have no idea! My mind has gone completely blank..
Well, as good a guide as any is the IMDB list as voted by the viewers themselves. Its as follows with the average rating out of 10.
1. Godfather 9.0
2. Shawshank Redemption 8.9
3. Lord of the rings Retrun if the king 8.9
4. Godfather part 2 8.8
5. Sichinin no Samurai 8.8 (7 Samurai)
6. Schindlers List 8.8
7. Casablanca 8.7
8. Lord of the rings Two Towers 8.7
9. Lord of the rings Fellowship 8.7
10. Star Wars 8.7
Sorry just read the question which asks for successfull films, well depends on what you term a success, if its popularity then the list is still valid. Here's the list for finacial success http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/alltimegross?region=world-widenote that at the bottom it does say its not adjusted for inflation.
