Unlocking a Grundig VCR GV240

Does anyone know how to unlock my Grundig Video Cassette Recorder/Player GV 240 GB? Looks like someone has accidentally locked it by pushing buttons. It requires a 4-digit code, but I've no idea what it is. Is there a way to reset it?

Dunno, but if the code was never set in the first place, the factory default is usually 0000.

Here is the solution, courtesy Alexander Oelzant. It happens when the buffer battery is empty (which inadvertently occurs after a few years when it can't take a charge any more) and random bits in the sram simulate a lock code (no checksum protection unlike pc mainboards).
