Reg Varney R.I.P.

Reg Varney, star of 'On The Buses' has died at the age of 92.

Unmourned as a 'comedian' by myself, I found him richly dserving of the soubriet 'The unfunniest man on television', but I know he was very popular, so I convey the news with sympathy to any of his AB fans.

Perhaps, Andy, you're not old enough to remember 'The Rag Trade?'

It was one of TV's early jewels, with Reg Varney's character excelllently portrayed alongside of those of Peter Jones (one of my heroes) and Miriam Karlin.

Anyway, Reg Varney will also be remembered for being the first person in the world to use a bank cash machine.

Actually Buenchico, at fifty-four, I am just about old enough to remember the Rag Trade, but not old enough to appreciate it.

I do remember 'On The Buses' though, and wondering whay a thirty-five-year-old man (even though RV was fifty at the time) was still living at home, and managing to attract young ladies with his paunch and greasy quiff.

As I said, each to their own - I do believe there are people whose opinions i would respect in almost every other area of life, who actually think that 'I'm A Celebrity' figures as worthwhile entertainment. It is a matter of opinion.

So Butler was twenty years older than Reg when that show went out .Remember watching Reg on a television show and he was showing paintings .He came over a really nice genuine man .What shows were funny then ..George & Mildred .Robins Nest two awful ones to mention for a start .
