Animal Afterlife

I recently wrote on here after my dog was put to sleep last week and thank you all so much for your support and stories, it helped me a lot.
The strangest thing happened last night tho, i had a dream about my dog. My dog was a lab but he was a dwarf so had tiny little legs. They eventually gave up and we had no choice other than put him at peace. Once he had gone the vet looked at his legs and said he thought that he may have had cancer as he detriorated so quickly. Anyway my dream last night was so strange he looked beautiful and he smelt just like he did. He had a sore leg and there was something stuck in it. He was laying on the floor and I told him it was gonna be ok and I had to take the pain out of his leg so he had to stay still. He looked at me, lick me on the face and then laid there while I took the nastiness out of his leg (it looked like a bullet or a battery wedged in his thigh. As I took it out he winced but he looked at me with those beautiful eyes and I stroked his head to tell him it would all be over soon. When the bullet was out I kissed him on the head and he kissed me back and then he got up and walked off into the distance. Then my alarm went off and he was gone. I tried so hard to get back into the dream but he was gone.
I just wondered if anyone else has had this? if so what does it mean, do u think he'll come back to me again?? I willed him to coem and visit me this week and he did - am i just looking to deeply or do others believe this is him saying goodbye?

My other half and I often hear my old cat Tigger - he had to be put down just after we moved to where we are now, four years ago. He used to live upstairs (he was 17 and a half) and when you used to bring his food up to him and he'd chirrup at you, as if to say "I'm here!". We have heard him lots of times, and sometimes you just catch a movement out of the corner of your eye. I firmly believe that animals go on to an afterlife and often come back to us in dreams. That is how I choose to think, and I believe that your dog came back to say goodbye to you blond_law and to show you that he is ok.
he was just letting you know he is still with you, you cant see him, he will still be there .my oldest son moved out last week and i felt quite down one day i was dusting the unit in the lounge and sat on the floor just looking at two photos that were on it 1 was him as a baby the other was of the dog we had when i lived at home with my mum (she passed on 6 years ago) i said what am i going to do now mum as i still talk to her( daft i know) i have a large metal spiral thing hanging in the window with a heavy glass ball in it as i sat there it hit the window and swung it frightened the life out of me but i know it was her letting me know she was there
Hi blond-law, i so sympathise. I lost my black gsd last year and not a day goes by when i don't think of her. I've had similar dreams too.
i found this poem on the net and though it brings tears to my eyes still, i found it comforting. Hope you do too

The Loss of a Dog
I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a peep
I could see that you were crying,
you found it hard to sleep
I whined to you softly as
you brushed away a tear,
"it's me, I haven't left,
I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here"
I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea
You were thinking of the many times,
your hands reached down to me
I was with you at the shops today,
your arms were getting sore
I longed to take your parcels,
I wish you could do more
I was with you at my grave today,
you tend it with such care
I want to reassure you,
that I'm not lying there
I walked with you towards the house,
as you fumbled for your key
I gently put my paw on you,
I smiled and said "it's me"
You look so very tired,
and sank into a chair
I tried so hard to let you know,
that I was standing there
It's possible for me,
to be so near you everyday
To say to you with certainty,
"I never went away"
You sat there very quietly,
then smiled, I think you knew
In the stillness of that evening,
I was very close to you
The day is over,
I smile and watch you yawning
And say "goodnight, God bless,
I'll see you in the morning"
And when the time is right for you
to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you
and we'll stand, side by side
I have so many things to show you,
there is so much for you to see
