Does anyone remember The wednesday play on t.v. in the 6os? I am looking for the name of a play starring James Bolam who played a Jack the lad who gets his girlfriend pregnant, has to marry her but carries on with his Jack the lad lifestyle until he visits his wife in hospital after giving birth and finds she has not got a pair of slippers to wea r or any clothes for the baby bringing him to his senses. I had tried the James Bolam web to no success Thanks.
Wikipedia gives A Kind Of LOving, which has a similar synopsis, but the lead in the film apparently was Alan Bates. Could it be the Play was an adaptation or the original?
Definitely not A Kind Of Loving.I know the story well and it does not match the Auntiemoll's description.
IMDb has a full list of Bolam's credits. There are a couple of entries which it could be but unfortunately they don't have a synopsis. One Two Sky Bue was an episode of a series called Boy Meets Girl. And there'sNo Cause For Alarm. But have a look and something may ring a bell.
Thanks to all three of you for your help. I have the D.V.D. of A kind of Loving starring Alan Bates and June Ritchie, also Saturday Night and Sunday Morning starring Albert Finney films all in the same ilk, but will pursue the web sites given to try and get my answer. First time I have used the answerbank, really surprised people care enough to reply, but I suppose that's the name of the website ... doh.
You couldnt be mixing it up with his story in When the Boat Comes in? He got someone pregnant in that but didnt realy want her - he wanted someone else.
