Mystery Programme

Please Help!  I can remember a TV programme (late 70s / Early 80s?) and it was on a Sunday afternoon about 17.00 Hrs (ish).  The opening credits / end credits were of a gate looking over a ploughed field, and you could here crows cawing.

The programme was based in an old country mansion type house, and was about the ghosts haunting it.  They were always together talking, and dressed in old clothes (suits  / bowler hats) with cobwebs on them.  I think it was a light hearted / comedy programme for kids and adults.  Can anyone remember the name of this programme?  Any links?  It has been doing my head in for years.  People are starting to think I'm making it up!

Nothing to do with ghosts, more scarecrows that came to life I thought.

It sounds like "The Ghosts of Motley Hall", yes, a comedy.The Ghosts couldn't leave the house, but were forever trying to stop people from buying it.Sheila Stefal ( not sure on the spelling of her name ) was among the cast of Ghosts.

It's a pleasure. The series was created by Richard Carpenter, who created  and wrote for some of the best ITV Childrens series.

He created Catweazel and Robin of Sherwood. And wrote for Black Beauty and Dick Turpin.

Ghosts of Motley Hall also starred Freddie Jones and Arthur English.
