Can anyone explain to me why one of our national treasures and wonderful actress hasnt been made a Dame yet? Esp when there are athletes who have won a couple of medals have been awarded dame-hood.

That's a coincidence, lainiej! I was thinking exactly the same thing after watching her in that drama earlier this week. She's incredible x

People offered an honour do have the right to reject it.

If she has been offered it maybe she feels she is too young to be a dame (I do hate the title, a "dame" sounds like a very old women).

I know Helen Mirren has one, and she is not "old", but maybe Julie wants to wait till she is in her 70s or that sort of age.

Hi Bathsheba. I've just watched the suicide drama tonight On Demand and cried my heart out. Julie's roles are so unbelievably varied and she carries them off so fantastically. x

I hope she's down to earth enuf to refuse such rubbish.....the gongs are mostly bought and very few are earned. She hasn't donated to the POWs Trust.

Julie Walters has been asked by the establishment to accept a Dameship but has refused. She has not ruled it out eventually but she could have been a Dame by now should she had chosen to accept.

Saw her tell an interviewer this about eighteen months ago.
