Wow! Was that gripping or what? Even though we all knew the fantastic outcome, I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat.
Very well made. Anybody agree??

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strenght to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."- Christopher Reeve
" A hero is no braver than the ordinary man, but he is braver for 5 minutes longer."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"You know, heroes are ordinary people that have achieved extraordinary things in life. "

We can all be heroic if we have the courage to dare to be heroic. We choose to either make a real positive difference in others lives or we choose the losers option of apathy/cynicism- let our fear stop us from acting for the common good ,yet to not cheat our life or others lives it is best to chose to be courageous- chosing love over fear- to be heroic. Luckily for the Airbus A320 they had a hero ensuring their safety. :-)

I'm in agreement with Octavious.
Not to detract from the skills of the pilot (he and his crew carried out a procedure that will probably never be equalled with such pinpoint precision in extremis) the whole programme tried to sensationalise every other aspect.
I grew tired of hearing the narrator accentuate far too often, with phrases like:
"Timing was now critical. The passengers have now been on the wing for FOUR minutes" or "all the passengers were now off the plane which would sink in another THIRTEEN minutes".
Granted the whole thing was a terrifying experience for the passengers but Channel 4 over dramatised the subsequent rescue that went swiftly and rather smoothly.

Channel 4 did not sensationalise anything- accurate portrayal of events + very well put together. It was a miracle for sure. Also, was good timing in more ways than one. Not just the amazing timing + accuracy + cool headed courage of the pilot , yet, everyone right now is in great need of a boost ( credit crunch gloom). The media tend to mostly cover the negative stories even when much extraordinary goodness happens around the world daily(this negative skew is an imbalance of reality), yet, this was good news that no newspaper or news network could ignore thank goodness. It was only sensational in the defintion of splendid not in the defintion of exaggerated. Has the troop of cynics/nitpickers/pedants here researched this news event in any depth or could they infact make a better documentary themselves on this true phenomenal story?! Warmest wishes to all the open minded + emotionally intelligent individuals out there, Bea :-)

You need to desist from ending your posts with such platitudes or I'm going to need a bucket shortly.
The programme should have focussed more on the actions of the pilot and crew following the birdstrike, not the (mostly uneventful) subsequent rescue, that's all.

Will end my posts however wish to Philtaz as it is a free country + am my own dynamic optimistic individual self who will not take requests from any monkey or troop of monkeys:-)
If you want a different take on the rescue- how about you make a documentary Philtaz?! You want it better- you make it better- make it happen - otherwise your words are empty.
The rescue itself was just as significant + far from uneventful for any of the survivors, any of the eye witnesses or any of the rescuers. Also, sure, the details of the rescue which was accurately portrayed by channel 4 as have carried out research on the matter- viewed many different media sources- was of interest to many viewers at home too.
Warmest wishes to all + may all you most wonderful individuals especially all dynamic ones like Chrissa1 have a most sublime weekend ;-) :-)

Philtaz, concerning the commentary, what did you expect it to say???? "Oh yeah, and by the way, I think they may be have around about, I could be wrong, but possibly Thirteen minutes before the plane may sink". OR "Golly, I think that they have been on that wing thing for about, ooh let me think, yep, I guess it's about 4 minutes".
If they didn't say anything at all, you'd be complaining that they hadn't given you any information!!! So they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Night Bea.

If it's a free country why berate those who disagree with your somewhat forthright views?
Wake up, take a chill pill and smell what you're shovelling.
Same for you chrissa. This is an Answerbank. You posed a question. People answered. If you want a debate you need to take it elsewhere.
G'night ladies.

Agree with you Chrissa1. Yet, philtaz tried to censor me for my words then when challenged him he became all sensitive. He never answered my question either- If you think you can make a better documentary on this subject then what is stopping you? Did not berate him + neither did you. People can say whatever they want contrary to Bea's opinion- just if a foolish comment is made will highlight this for goodness sake. To criticise a good documentary without any substantial reason/s or to say a hero is not a hero is utter folly + folly like this needs to be challenged. In recession/ credit crunch times, we all need uplifting documentaries, good news stories, heroes to look up to, humour, stories of courage or hope + any kinds of positive snippets for sure- even more so than at any time previous. Watched the Patrick Swayze documentary tonight- this was equally inspiring. Chrissa1 you do not need to justify your fine self to any monkey or troop of monkeys. Whenever there is something inspirational there will always be the bah humbug cynics/nitpickers/negative/pessimists out there- yet, what noble words or actions do they have to offer the world by being like they are?! Sweet dreams Chrissa1- Dios te bendiga-- you are the finest apple so stay as you are please :-) Night night, Bea :-)
