What is your favourite comedy show on TV (past or current)? What do you think of the state of TV comedy at the moment? What sort of thing would you like to see more of?

Fawlty Towers

Medium

Surreal stuff like Monty Python

I like Only Fools and Horses, Ricky Gervais Live, Peter Kay, Billy Connolly, Little Britain, It Aint 'Alf Hot Mum, Dad's Army, Last of the Summer Wine..... I think only the British understand our comedy, particularly the older stuff like Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, etc. I'd like to see more of the above, but more importantly I'd like to see less of Bo Selecta and Co. What is the attraction? I could think of more but I have to do some work. Avid Miriam should be put down.

i'd have to say that the office and phoenix nights are my current favourites. past would be blackadder.

current state of comedy is good but we'll have to see what the likes of kay/spikey/fitzmaurice and gervais/merchant will come up with next, i personally can't wait.

Current- Green Wing, because it's completely different but very British

Past- I used to love the Russ Abbott show ( i know! I can't explain it...); Allo allo always brings back good memories as well. I'm just trying to think of ones that people haven't already mentioned!

And I must be the only person in GB who doesn't really like Only Fools...

15 storeys, spaced, big train, black books, human remains, people like us, pheonix nights, the office and then probably the funniest 'mockumentary' of all time - 'operation good guys'. also look out for a show called 'THE LAST CHANCERS' which will be on E4 / C4 around about christmas time, it will be 6 x 30 min eps on e4 and then a feature length compilation on c4. it was written by TONY MACMURRY (who had a very small part in the office) and directed by Steven Merchant and stars Adam Buxton, Steve John Shepherd, Kevin Bishop, Alice Low as a band trying to make it big but never quite getting it right. It's brilliant, on your second question, tv comedy is having a purple patch at the moment, but the channels still wont take a risk on many first time writers and as for letting things grow and develop (like friends) and run for 4,5,6,7.... series, you have got more chance of finding rocking horse sh*t. But the channels do like their viewers to comment on the programmes, so if you see something you like call the channel duty log and tell them what you think. if enough people do it you might make a difference. happy viewing
Smoking room is coming to BBC1 or 2 soon, may be interesting. I've never known British comedy in such a bad state.I prefer American comedy at the mo.
PAST: Spaced ..... PRESENT: Green Wing ..... FUTURE: Spaced series 3..?

Currently I like Green Wing and Will and Grace (good one liners). In the past I liked Seinfeld, Black Books, Fawlty Towers and I'm Alan Partridge. I don't think there is much good comedy on at present, highlighted by another awful reality show - Kings of Comedy. I think the British are very good at doing surreal comedy and sketch shows, but I'd like to see more comedy based in everyday environments. I think that is where the talent of writing lies - making a funny show out of boring, everyday life, which I think the Office did brilliantly.

Have to be Green wing currently.  Soap, MASH, Monty Python, Black Books, Father Ted from the past -probably others depending on my mood.

Current state of TV comedy - same as usual.  Some gems, some dross.

Seinfeld is the greatest, but thanks to the BBC hardly anyone saw it. Look out for Curb Your Enthusiasm, coming to C4 soon.
