Why is it that on a live TV programme when there is a musical performance (eg Jamelia on last Saturday's Ant & Dec Show) the picture quality changes from the norm to take on a more "film like" appearance ?

I've noticed that too.  Haven't a clue why it happens, except assume they have altered the way of filming?  Nothing to do with the acts miming???!

Maybe it's pre-recorded as opposed to the rest of the show being "Live"??
