What was the name of the 1970's BBC childrens programme that had a witch and jester and horse in it?

It was called Rentaghost and the witch was called MacDuff or somethging and was Scottish and she was a Scottish novelist called Molly Weir and there was another woman in it - can't remember what her character was called but she was played by Audrey in Coronation Street - Sue Nicolls

I think Mr Timothy Claypole died. Do any Rentaghost fans remember the first series? It was entirely different in terms of tone. The story was about this young man (Fred Mumford, he was the son of the couple who lived next door to the Meakers)) who had died and didn't know how to be a ghost so he started up a sort of Ghost job agency with two other ghosts, one was Mr Claypole, the other, an old posh bloke who didn't make the second series. That's showbiz

I remember the first series as being the only one worth watching.  It was really good. I kind of lost interest when they stopped doing jobs and it became an office based farce.

sue nicholls played nadia popov who dissapeared when she sneezed. they should never have had that stupid horse dobbin though.the old posh ghost was called davenport i think. wasnt he played by jon pertwee?

Davenport not played by Jon Pertwee.  Wasn't it someone like the guy who played the old gay married dancer in "Hi Di Hi"
