scariest film ever???

cud u plz tell me the scariest film eva u have seen or heard of...im lookin 4 a really good 1, not just the recent one's as have seen most of them... are stephen kings the best? 

NOT...texas chain saw...exorcist...it...6th sence...ring...wrong turn...or any like these...i thought they was lame! im talking REALLY SCARY! thnx!

I don't really find most films scary - even the so called horror ones - I watched the omen aged 9 or 10 when it was first shown on tv and laughed myself stupid when the plate glass window severed the guys head off and the same when jaws came out when i was 7 - the guys leg falling off was my favourite bit - as the trainer was still on.

The worst film i've ever seen was called The people under the stairs - it was the thought of it that made it even more scary - these children lived in the walls of this house and this old couple ran around shooting them throught the walls - they had them all imprisoned in the walls - i did say it was wierd and freaky

The film that is not a scary one but totally freaks me out is Pacific Heights - i hate the thought of it and can't bring myself to look at it again even though i bought the video - the thought that somenone could move into your home and you couldn't get rid of them even if they were raging psychos freaked me out big time and i loved michael keaton and i can't stand him in this - his character is horrible - his acting was good - too good

'Saw', currently in cinemas. It is NOT, as the name might suggest, about a maniac with a chain saw, but a tense psychological chiller which can be compared with 'Seven' or 'Silence of the Lambs' in its style of terror.

Try something like "Salem's Lot," that was pretty spooky in its day, quite atmospheric (I was quite young when i watched it though.)  "The Others" (Nicole Kiddman) - You've probably seen that though, I found that quite jumpy in parts, good story. Some of the earlier Hammer Horror series (not so much the films) were REALLY freaky, think you can get them on DVD now

stephen king books are excellent but they never make good films apart from "it" and "salems lot" salems lot is still the scariest film i have ever seen

the new one The Grudge is supposed to be scary, thats only in cinemas!! erm the one i can ****** alone or even with friends is Event Horizon, scary. i refuse to buy it on dvd even. i dont scare easy - well with films. xx

Poltergeist always scared me  - the bit with the clown, oh yeah and of course IT. Clowns r just scary. What freaked me out more than any film - horrors are laughable - was Strange but True on ITV presented by Michael Aspell. Now THAT'S scary ****!!!

I think Nosferatu..eine Symphonie des Grauens is chilling. Made in 1922, starring Max Shcreck. Quite possibly my own very favourite movie. No vampire film before or since has been either as disturbing or as artful.The scene where he rises suddenly erect from his coffin aboard ship is one that horror directors everywhere should study very carefully.

.. I liked "shallow grave" ..scary because it could so easily happen to you, also Cape Fear I find very scary, I find slasher movies laughable ( the people under the stairs being my alltime fave funny scary movie), I love stephen King's books and agree most of the films are terrible, though I did like "the shining" superbly adapted by cubrick for the screen, also "the hole " is good...

It wouldn't be considered anything out of the ordinary now but at the time I think just about everyone was scared sh*tless when Jaws first hit the screen.

 

The combination of the deep, fear of the unknown and that spine tingling music by John Williams was a total winner.

Hitchcock's the birds scared the living daylights out of me when I was young you could try that. Don't know how it would stand up now though.

If you want a really scary film rent a Japanese one. Seriously. Like 'Dark Water', that scared my friend so badly she had an asthma attack.

The one aurelia mentioned with the children living in the walls is also terrifying, I saw that years ago and have never recovered. And I'm one of those people that yawns during The Exorcist while everyone else is wincing :)

There's a spooky film by Italian horror maestro Dario Argento called "Suspiria" which came out in the late 70s. I saw it a few years ago and it's a very tense, atmospheric film with a few very gory moments. The original "The Haunting" made in 1963 is a very good one too, with the emphasis more on tension and atmosphere, rather than special effects (like in the dreadful remake with Catherine Zeta-Jones-Douglas in and countless other "modern" horror films).

I saw The Grudge on Fri and it really is a very jumpy, scary movie, definately one to watch at the cinema.

I had high expectations for The Grudge remake. The trailer showing the woman clambering down the stairs reminded me of the deleated scenes from the exorcist which i find quite disturbing. Unfortunately i found it dull and it failed to even make me jump. Apparently the original Japanese versions (Theres are 4 in the Ju-On series) are great. If you're looking for a scary movie, Japenese movies usually deliver.

The scariest bit out of a film i have ever seen is the deleted bit out of the exorsist. known as the spider walk. it absolutely freaked me out, even typing this and thinking about it gives me the eeby jeebies. I also don't like people talking in possesed voices!!! anyway about to watch "saw" so will let you know!!!!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHG

thanx all 4 ur suggestions...am takin notes... saw was mentioned a few times and the children in the walls sounds gr8 2! was thinking about the grudge but by the sounds of it it aint all its cracked up 2 b! o well!   As steph84 mentioned Strange but tru... now i dont know how long ago that was on tv but im 15 and rememba watching dat!    it sounds like we have the same taste in films nd yes clowns really do freak me out as it IT! possessed ppl with freaky voices do scare the cr*p outa me 2!  mayb scary films dont really scare me coz i was shown them when i was very young started watchin freddie crueger when i was about 4! Vampire/zombie films and Jaws r not really my type but thnx all 4 the suggestions ne way! Luv ya! xxx
