the women of GMTV
10 Answers
Before I even ask this question, I predict I'll get at least 1 response saying 'If you don't like it, don't watch it...' But the fact is I want to watch GMTV of a morning because there's not much else on then. But I find its women presenters awful. Lorraine Kelly is absurdly sycophantic, doesn't listen and constantly interrupts when interviewing. Penny Smith is barking and never grows up (you can tell she irritates the heck out of John Stapleton, and I'm not surprised). Emma Crosby tries sooooooo hard to make out she has a personality when she evidently doesn't (& she narrows her eyes in an attempt to look seductive when talking to camera). And Kate Garraway has that ghastly air of superiority when she's actually, well, don't get me started on her... I'm not sexist, but I do like Andrew Castle (an average tennis player who's become a surprisingly excellent TV host) and, to a lesser extent, Richard Arnold (now they've stopped his egotistical own show slot). Whoever chooses GMTV's female presenters though needs a severe talking to. I'd boot the lot out, and I'm sure they'd all struggle to work elsewhere as Fiona Phillips inevitably has. Your thoughts please.

Totally agree with you about Lorraine Kelly - tooooo much.
Andrew Castle is great. I even like John Stapleton.

Penny does get on my nerves a bit. She doesn't seem to have a serious bone in her body which is kind of good in a way but you do need a certain sincerity about you especially for a newsreader and she hasn't got it.
Emma is ok but a little try hard perhaps.
Andrew is probs the most down to earth but is one of those men that can never seem to say the right thing and is a bit foolish with comments he comes out with sometimes that he might think are funny. He is definitely an embarassing dad type.
Kate Garraway is ok but yes maybe thinks a bit too much of herself but then again she is a confident women and why the hell shouldn't she be.

just kidding, i would tend to agree with you, but do you have anyone in mind who you think would turn out to be a great female gmtv presenter...?
i bet they would start off ok but get on your wick affter a few weeks. and i think thats the prob. they become too familiar and too predictabel.

sorry - i must admit to having to put up with the tv on when i was with my ex - i now listen to local radio when getting ready in the morning. so much more informative and less distracting.... and if the neighbours are on an early shift - can be played loud!!!
To my idea, too much emphasis is put on visual stuff being played on our brains - in the morning we had enough to cope with getting out of the packet!!!! Radio is enough in the morning - surely?
