Did anyone else think this was a poor attempt by the BBC at making a DocuDrama? Why did they have to ruin a perfectly good idea by trying to make it all 'Hollywood', with cheesy scripts / acting, and 'emotional' orchestral music. The only good thing about it were the special effects.

I totally agree. The programme about tha Cassini mission to Saturn a while back was far superior. Not only did it not have the whole drama thing going on, it just set out facts, and still had cool special effects. Why couldn't they just have done the same thing with this show?

I didn't watch it because it was a docu-drama.  But I'm not surprised to read your comments.

I find it increasingly irritating that there are more & more cheap 'reality TV' shows replacing dramas, comedies, etc., on our screens yet at the same time they feel documentaries aren't entertaining enough in their own right & have to liven things up for us.  We just end up with the worst of both worlds!

I thought  it was quite good considering the crap thats usually on the tv. Although i think it was very lightweight and included terrible acting.
They should have made it darker and killed the astronauts off in different and diabolical ways!!!

It's the reason I could only watch it for about 2 minutes before switching over.

i sat thru half of the 1st one but was annoyed by the fact that they changed historical events - couldnt see the point as the whole point of the prog was about mans future space explorations

I didn't watch it because I could see what was coming from the interminable trailers.  I assumed that it was going to be along the lines of Walking with Dinosaurs.

I think that they devise special effects, then build a programme round them.  This happens with cinema films, too.

It was neither one thing or the other. It wasnt a gripping drama and the science was lightweight. It also felt very rushed in 2 hours. With a little more time and some expansion of the characters it could have made a decent mini series. Nice Special Effects tho!
