Terminator 3 to terrestrial TV

The abysmal Terminator 3 got its terrestrial premiere on Channel 5 last Sunday. However, I was extremely surprised at how quickly it aired on our televisions - it was only released at the cinema in August 2003!

It appeared on Sky Box Office, but completely bypassed their standard movie channels. The normal waiting period for a film to get on terrestrial tv from the cinema is about two to three years!

Does anyone know how, or why, Channel 5 captured the rights just 15 months after its cinematic debut. (And it can't just be because the film was rubbish, as Sky show all the rubbish stuff too!)

i would imagine it all bomes down to money.

c5 either bought the rights off sky or simply outbid them.

t3 wasnt that bad - the story surpassed my expectations cleverly taking it from our reality to an alternative for a possible t4 with no arnie(fingers crossed)

Ch5 bought the rites to show T3 before Sky did.

That's interesting, as this is the first time that I can recall a terrestrial channel has outbid, or bought the rights off, Sky for a movie. It didn't do particularly well at the cinema, so it's not like that was a reason for it either.

 

Non Sky viewers wait years for the likes of Moulin Rouge, Memento (even flippin Daddy Day Care and it's rubbish equivalents) and instead they get lumbered with 60 year old Arnold lumbering around pretending to be a state of the art Terminator. Ho-hum...

Die Another Day made it to ITV1 after Sky Box Office and bypasssing Sky Movies.

Yeah, but for some reason, all James Bond movies go to terrestrial after Sky Box Office (after a waiting period) - and it's always to ITV. The Beeb never get to show Bond movies. Must be some contract somewhere. And terrestrial still had to wait two years for Die Another Day from the cinema.

 

(I'm getting far too geeky about this, I'm going to call an end to this and just accept it happened!!)

i personally think that bomes is  a much better word than comes.

i think the reason is, T3 was pants and no one bid except Ch5, so they got it, i mean it wasnt goin to bring in the viewers on sky. its been said - not by me, a lecturer at my uni - that Ch5 viewers are a bit slower and they generally dumb down their programmes, it seems to me that the viewers of Ch5 might actually be the populus the 'film' was aimed at.

p.s i dont mean to offend. every one is free to like what ever films they like except when they are pants. xx
