I don't watch the Street but I had an email from my son about tonight's episode. He said that when the Andrew Sachs character left, he said to Norris "I mean well, I really mean well". He thought it was a contrived gag to sound like Manuel, the character AS played in Fawlty Towers. I didn't think the scriptwriters would do that. Did anyone else notice it?

I saw tonights episode and there was one bit when he turned around and looked at Norris then walked away which was very Manuel-ish
I saw that too elvis. I wouldn't put that past the writers foxlee - remember noddy holder and merry Christmas everybody
pericat - not sure what the NH reference is - was it his time in 'The Grimleys'? If so, they always made subtle references to his 'day job' in the series.

As for a 'Manuel' reference - highly unlikely that the Corrie writers would bother, or that AS would be interested. I think it's reading too much into things.
You're prob right andy - my noddy ref was the live Christmas episode when I think he played the mayor visiting the street and as he got back into his car he shouted merry Christmas everybody as he does at the end of slades Christmas song.

andy-hughes - it's a long time since I watched the Street but I seem to remember that Les Battersby was a big fan of Slade and Noddy Holder appeared in the programme, can't remember the storyline, but as he appeared as himself, it was okay for him to say 'Merry Christmas Everybody'.
I think he actually said "I meant well - I always meant well" which kind of scuppers the debate!
Question Author
Oh, well, i got that wrong - NH did NOT play himself and yet he was able to say Merry Christmas Everybody.
Ah, thanks, I don't watch regularly, as you may guess from my vague response.

I understand Carla returns soon, so i shall be tuning in every episode when that occurs.

Sigh .....
I thought he said 'meant well' too

and I'm hoping andy, that Liam walks out of the shower a la Bobby Ewing...sigh :o)
Les Battersby was a fan of Status Quo, not Slade. And there were a few episodes where they appeared in it too.
Question Author
Yes, it is a long time since I watched Corrie and as I typed Slade, it didn't 'feel' right. I shall now shut up on the subject as my memory keeps getting things wrong!!
Sigh, Liam in the shower........................ swoon!
Hey ladies! I started the lustfest first, and now you;ve given me an image with a Carla / shower inferface-type-scenario, I shall have to go for a quick rubdown with a damp Daily Mail!!!!
