Sandman Stories

Does anyone else remember 'the Sandman Stories' - improving little books that we used to get in our Xmas stockings in the late '40s?They were very Victorian moral type stories, so may have been reprints or sequels to older tales.Any children were sad orphans or had feckless families and were called Mikey and Effie or suchlike. The rich children they envied had posh names, but it was often proved that the poorer children were richer in spirit. Sounds ghastly, but my sister and I lapped them up.There must have been other tales - animal stories,maybe? - but I recall the sob stuff better!
