My elderly mother bought a new digital TV the other day. She had the idea that she would no longer need her freeview box, as the freeview receiver was built in. When the TV was delivered, the delivery man very kindly set it up for her free of charge. Now she is driving us all mad because she says she still has to use the freeview box. I know nothing about this and wondered if you need it or not. She says maybe he just set it up like that because he thought she was used to working with the box and it would be easier for her. Help.. can anyone explain it to me please. I'd be most grateful for advice.

Strictly speaking, no, she should not need the freeview box, but has he set it up I wonder so she can record stuff onto a video or whatever. This is one aspect which people buying a freeview telly seem to forget, that the tuner is in the telly, and that although you can get a video to work with it, it's pointless because the telly has to be on to get the signal.

Surely most TVs now are self tuning, so set up should just be plugging it in, putting the aerial lead in, and letting the telly do the rest.

Thank you very much Postdog. I will try doing just what you have suggested with it tomorrow.
Her tv could have dual tuners - analogue and digital. It is simply a matter of pressing a button on the remote control to toggle between the two. (My button says tv).
If it is set to analogue she will need her box to get digital.
I also have a Freeview TV, but I also have a Freeview box, so that if I want to, I can record off the box and watch a different digital channel on the TV. I find it very handy.
